Wm. Dean Hodges, age 80, of Stover, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at his home.
He was born May 24, 1931, in Barnett, a son of Wm. Edgar and Opal Dean Dutcher Hodges. On October 15, 1950, Dean was united in marriage to Virginia Lee, who survives at their home.
Dean was an Army veteran, serving his country in the Korean War.
In 1991, he retired as Postmaster of the Sunrise Beach Post Office.
He was a faithful member of the Stover United Methodist Church. Dean was a Past Master of the Versailles Masonic Lodge 320, receiving his 50 year Membership Award in March 2008, a member of Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343 in Stover, the Stover Lions Club, and a former member of the Stover School Board.
Dean enjoyed being with his family, listening to country music, especially the Blackwater Band, and dancing for as long as he was able.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Lynda Hiller and husband Lloyd of Versailles; Vicki Jones and husband Mark of LaMonte; Ron Hodges and wife Sue of Stover; Scott Hodges of Chandler, Arizona and Shelly Garr and fiancé Bruce Korte of California; 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Erma Marriott and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 2, at the Stover United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Kruse and Rev. Diane Cutler officiating. Interment, with military funeral honors, will be in the Versailles Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, the Stover United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
