William Thomas "Tom" Wisch

May 11, 1941 — February 18, 2016

William Thomas "Tom" Wisch, age 74, of Russellville passed away early Thursday morning, February 18, 2016, at St. Joseph's Bluff s in Jefferson City.
He was born May 11, 1941, in Jefferson City, a son of Andrew J. and Byna Ragain Wisch. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters Catholic Church in Jefferson City.
Tom was a 1959 graduate of Helias High School in Jefferson City. He served his country in the United States Army in Germany, receiving his honorable discharge in December of 1966.
On May 23, 1970, Tom was united in marriage to Virginia E. "Jane" Ehlert in the United Methodist Church in Rosebud. Jane survives at their home.
Tom began his professional career as an accountant with the Missouri Department of Transportation. He transferred to the Division of Employment Security, before retiring from the Missouri Veterans Commission. He also owned Wisch Tax Service before his health failed him.
Tom was a faithful member of the Russellville United Methodist Church for more than 35 years. He was instrumental in the construction of the new addition during the 1980's, along with serving in various other capacities within the church. He had been active in the church choir for many years and when he was no longer able to physically attend services, continued to participate in Sunday school and church via Skype.
He loved to travel, go boating, tinker with cars, spend time on his computer, dabble in photography, and was an accomplished carpenter, helping to build his current home. In spite of his gruff exterior, Tom had a heart of gold; he would do anything for his friends and loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert J. and Karen Wisch and James B. and Susie Wisch all of Jefferson City; two brothers-in-law, Bryan Berry of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and Roderick Bruns and wife Trudy of Jefferson City; their "adopted family" Katherine Kral, Stephen Kral, Elizabeth Hoffman, and Gabrielle Branstetter and their families, several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary D. Berry and Patricia A. Bruns.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 21, at the Russellville United Methodist Church with Pastor Royal Speidel officiating. Military honors will be rendered immediately following the service at the church.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Russellville United Methodist Church or When the Yellow Ribbon Fades Missouri's Joining Forces non-profit.
