William R. "Bill" Larsen, age 77, of the Ivy Bend community south of Stover, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at his home.
He was born July 28, 1933, in Snohomish, Washington, a son of Charles Raymond "Hap" and Doretta June Butler Larsen.
He was a graduate of Snohomish High School, where he was an outstanding athlete in Track and Football, achieving All State and All American Honors.
He was a Marine Corps Veteran, serving his country in the Korean War.
Bill was a tool and die maker for Chicago Rawhide Manufacturing in Chicago, Illinois.
For many years, Bill has called Ivy Bend his home, where he thoroughly enjoyed sitting in his 1955 barber chair, enjoying his view of the lake. He loved to play cards, and for the past fifteen years provided the location for the Ivy Bend Card Club to gather.
He loved playing with his twin black Labs, Alpha and Beta, and his other canine companion, Scruffy. He also enjoyed the time he could spend with his family and friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Melinda Wade, of Ivy Bend; a granddaughter Amber Joy Elder of Janesville, Wisconsin, a great grandson, Blaine Elder, along with special friends Peggy Snow and Ron Spangler both of Ivy Bend, and the staff of the Benton County Hospice, also other relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Ron Wade and two brothers, Charles Butler "Bud" Larsen and Robert Leroy "Bob" Larsen.
In keeping with his wishes, Bill was cremated. A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 26, at the SnaFu II Lounge in Ivy Bend, with military funeral honors rendered by Zack Wheat American Legion Post 624. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to a local ASPCA in memory of Bill Larsen.
