William C. Bergmann

William C. Bergmann, age 89, of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon.
He was born November 11, 1925, in Lincoln, Missouri, a son of Carl. H. and Mary K. Garuandt Bergmann.
Bill married Marjorie Scruton, and to this union one son, William C. Bergmann, Jr. was born. He later married Shirley Bruns, November, 1963 and she preceded him in death April, 1996. In September, 1997, Bill married Patsy (Pat) Butler and she survives at their home in Springfield, MO.
He graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia and served his Country in World War II as an Army Paratrooper in the 17th Airborne Division, receiving a Purple Heart for being wounded in action on March 24, 1946 in Germany.
After receiving his Honorable Discharge in April of 1946, Bill returned to Sedalia, where he was employed with the Sedalia Democrat Company; and worked there until retiring.
He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, currently belonging to the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Springfield. He also attended the Kingsway United Methodist Church in Springfield with his wife Pat. Bill was a man of true faith, both of the word and in action.
For many years Bill resided south of Stover on the Lake of the Ozarks, where he enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends. While residing in the Stover area, he was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343 and the Stover Rural Fire Department.
In addition to his wife of 17 years, he is survived by a brother, Harold (Ardy) Bergmann, a son, William C. (Becky) Bergmann, Jr., two grandchildren, Benjamin and Kathryn Bergmann, eight stepchildren, Dennis (Jacqueline) Bruns, Mike (Jill) Bruns, Genie (Tim) Rosenbury, Geoffrey (Buffy) Butler, Brock (Mary Lou) Butler, Ben (Anna)Butler, Daniel (Chris) Butler and Beth (Fred) Egge, sixteen step grandchildren, Jamie, David, Andy, Ryan, Megan, Amanda, Sam, Nicole, Charlie, George, Patrick, Genevieve, Daniel, Jack, Drew, Rebecca, Everett, Laura and seven step great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives. He also leaves many, many friends since he never met a stranger. All of the above will miss him dearly.
Bill was preceded in death by his former wives Margorie and Shirley, his parents and one sister, Rosina Knight.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, in the mausoleum at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time.
A Memorial Service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2852 S. Dayton Ave, Springfield, Mo. on Saturday, December 20, at 11:00AM.
