Wilbert J. Schmoeger

Wilbert J. Schmoeger, age 89, of Russellville, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
He was born July 14, 1921, on the family farm near Russellville a son of William and Louise Plochberger Schmoeger, both deceased. Wilbert was baptized July 31, 1921 and confirmed April 10, 1935, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville. The confirmation verse chosen was Matthew 10:32-33, "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." On August 28, 1946, at the family farm, he was united in marriage to Irene Schock, who preceded him in death October 31, 1995.
Wilbert farmed in the Russellville area for most of his life.
He was a lifelong, faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville, serving for many years on the church council. He also helped organize and was an original member of the Trinity Lutheran Perpetual Cemetery Board.
Wilbert served 25 years on the Community Bank of Russellville Board, holding the office of President for several years. He was also a longtime member of the Farm Bureau and MFA Boards and served for several years on the Russellville Fire Department.
His greatest enjoyment came from being on his farm and spending time with his family.
Survivors include six children and their spouses, William and Judith Schmoeger, Lee's Summit; Donn and Sheryl Schmoeger, Russellville; Dwight and Judy Schmoeger, Jefferson City; John Schmoeger, Russellville; Kathy and Randy Koestner, Lohman and Brenda Stutte, St. Louis; eleven grandchildren and their spouses, Vincent and Julie Schmoeger, Russell and Tracy Schmoeger, Lindsey and Kevin Stinson, Tyler Schmoeger, Shannon and Jen Schmoeger, Stephanie and Dean Runyan, Alisha Koesther, Sarah Koestner, LeAnn and Jeff Grefenkamp, Jenna and Kenny Hammond and Meryl Stutte, nine great grandchildren, Sydney, Michaela, Wyatt, Pake, Brennen, Hannah, Jack, Ava and Madelyn, nieces, Heather Haberaecker and Charlotte Saylor and husband Marc, great nephew, Alex Saylor, also other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Haberaecker and Wanda and Edna Schmoeger.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 7, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville with Pastor David Carlson officiating. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, August 6, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
