Wayne B. Fethke, age 81, of Florence passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
Wayne was born April 10, 1937, at the family farm near Florence to Lowell and Nettie Kindrick Fethke. He was baptized at the Florence Methodist Church on July 18, 1937, by the Reverend C.F. Mayer at the Klein Family Reunion.
Wayne attended elementary school at Rocky Point School in the Florence rural area and the Florence School. Then he attended high school at Morgan County R-1 where he graduated with the class of 1955.
He served his country in the United States Army; receiving his Honorable discharge July 23, 1962.
Wayne is a lifelong member of the Florence United Methodist Church.
He was a lifelong cattle farmer. He also worked at Pittsburg Corning in Sedalia and as a heavy equipment operator for Kelly Brothers Construction Company and Clarkson Construction Company.
Wayne spent his life in Florence on the family farm. He enjoyed being around the community and talked with everyone. He loved country music especially a good honky-tonk and liked to 2-step any time he got a chance. He loved his horses and horseback riding. He seldom missed a trail ride and had many friends in the riding circuit. He also loved being on the farm.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Cleo and Hazel Fethke of Versailles; four nieces and their husbands, Cathy and Jerry Holsten of Florence, Angela and Craig Pettig of O'Fallon, Mary and Mike Rathmann of Sedalia, and Sandra and Eddie Smith of Sedalia; one nephew and his wife, Gregory Lowell and Luesa Fethke of Florence; many great nieces and nephews, Schuyler and Alex Holsten, Makenzie, Madelyn, Logan, and Ryan Pettig, Marissa and Miley Rathmann, and Wesley Smith; and a multitude of friends.
Along with his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Janice Fethke; and one niece, Kristin Harris.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the Florence United Methodist Church with Rev. Vonda Veale officiating. Burial will be in the Florence United Methodist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, March 18, 2019, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.
