Waneta Emma Marriott

March 2, 1925 — March 23, 2016

Waneta Emma Marriott, age 91, of Stover, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at her home.
She was born March 2, 1925, in Stover, the daughter of Christ J. and Catherine M. Monsees Gerlt.
She was a graduate of Stover High School. As a young woman, Waneta worked as a secretary for State Representative Huff in Jefferson City. After returning to Stover, she went to work at Cooper’s Store, where she met a young man named Delmon Marriott. This chance encounter led to a courtship and later their marriage, which took place on February 27, 1949, at the Christ Lutheran Church in Stover. Delmon survives at their home.
Through the years Waneta worked at various locations in Stover, namely, Cooper’s Store, as a part-time cook for the Stover school, at Smithson’s Quilting, and as a Morgan County Election Judge. For many years she worked alongside her husband on their farm, milking cows and also as a pastor wife, supporting him in the ministry at the Ritchie Baptist Church. However, to Waneta, nothing compared to being a homemaker. Her passion was her family, creating a loving home for her husband and five children, caring for her parents in their later years, and enjoying every minute she could spend with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Her faith and work ethic were the foundations she built her family on and she was the glue that kept them all together.
In addition to her husband of 67 years, she is survived by five children and their spouses, Kathy Emperley of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Jim and Pat Marriott of Stover; Paul and Gail Marriott of Mountain View; David and Gail Marriott of Centralia, and Carol Johnson of Houston, Texas; fourteen grandchildren, Stephanie Emperley, Michael Marriott, Mendy Holem, Wesley Marriott, Sandra Phipps, Shelley Berkshire, Wade Marriott, Holli Eschbacher, Chad Marriott, Christopher Marriott, Gretchen Marriott, Chadd Johnson, Cory Johnson, and Clay Johnson, thirty great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Waneta was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, Josephine Nolting, Joseph Gerlt, Lorenz Gerlt, Walter Gerlt, Martin Gerlt, Lorena Gerlt, son-in-law Michael Johnson, and great grandson Lane Holem.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 28, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Rev. Carl DeFreeze and Rev. Joe Sprague officiating. Interment will be in the Stover Cemetery.
