Vivian Shikles McCarty

June 7, 1923 — June 22, 2015

Vivian Shikles McCarty, age 92, of Russellville, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015, at Oak Tree Villas in Jefferson City.
She was born June 7, 1923, in Russellville, a daughter of Edward and Mary Butcher Shikles. On December 22, 1944, she was united in marriage to Paul E. McCarty, who preceded her in death November 14, 2012.
Vivian was a 1942 graduate of Russellville High School.
She was employed by Hansen Dental Laboratory in Kansas City as a dental technician for many years.
In 1986 Paul and Vivian retired to a farm near Russellville, where they raised Charolais cattle, enjoyed the country life, and being near family.
Vivian was an active member of the Corticelli Baptist Church. After moving to Oak Tree Villas, she thoroughly enjoyed their monthly church services and would gather up all her friends and invite them to join her for worship. She was an inspiration to all and was proud of her church.
Vivian was very artistic and an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed toll painting and the family has mementos of her work. She also made dresses for her nieces throughout the years, which many have kept as keepsakes.
She looked forward to traveling with her husband to his annual Navy reunions (USS Nashville) and in doing so traveled throughout the United States. They acquired many friends while attending these reunions and spoke of them often.
Vivian is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Wayne Smith of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; two brothers and four sisters-in-law, Darvin and Rosalee Shikles of Russellville; Elwyn and Darlene Shikles of Jefferson City; Ethel Shikles of Russellville and JoAnn Shikles of Lenexa, Kansas; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Edward Ewing Shikles and Jewell Shikles.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, at the Corticelli Baptist Church west of Russellville with Dr. Rick Seaton officiating. Interment will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church on Friday, June 26. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Corticelli Baptist Church %Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, 5414 Simpson St., Russellville, MO 65074.
