Vivian M. Hicken, age 90, of Stover, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
She was born January 31, 1922, in Cole Camp, a daughter of Louis J. and Anna Alpers Tagtmeyer. She was baptized February 12, 1922, and confirmed April 14, 1935, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover. The confirmation verse chosen was Psalms 37:5, "Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."
On May 22, 1949, at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover, Vivian was united in marriage to Alfred L. Hicken, who survives at their home.
Vivian worked at Tweedies Manufacturing during World War II. She later was employed as a seamstress at Smithson's Inc., which was located in Stover.
Vivian was a lifelong, faithful member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, where she was a former member of the church choir and the Jr. Ladies Aid.
She was also a homemaker, busy raising her son. Vivian truly enjoyed being on the family farm; helping Alfred and working in her garden.
In her spare time she enjoyed traveling and fishing with her husband and making quilts.
In addition to her husband of 63 years, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Belinda Hicken of Smithton; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Andria and Jesse Gibb and Jessica and Chad Mooneyham; two great grandchildren, Ashton and Paisley Mooneyham, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Opal Tagtmeyer, Goldie Ornes, Alice Kuebler and Arlene Gerlt.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Cecil Murdock officiating. Interment will be in St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery in Stover.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m Saturday, June 9, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover.
