Mrs. Virginia Ruth Crismon Nelson, 89, of Stover, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on August 4th, 2015 at Avonlea Care Homes, Gladstone, Missouri.
She was born September 8, 1925, in Miller County, Missouri a daughter of Joseph Ira and Gladys Irene Nixdorf Crismon. On December 2, 1945 she was united in marriage to James R Nelson in the Christian Church in Eldon, Missouri, who preceded her in death on August 11, 2012.
Virginia graduated from Eldon High School and she worked at several businesses before and after marriage but was primarily a homemaker. She was an active member of the Stover United Methodist Church for nearly 60 years and an active member of the Golden Age Living Center Guild.
She enjoyed cooking, taking care of her lovely flower beds, sewing, reading, and crossword puzzles. Caring for and spoiling ten grandchildren was a passion, who lovingly called her "Nanny". She was famous for her homemade goods: cinnamon rolls, cinnamon toast, cookies, and garden-grown strawberry preserves. But don't let these domestic activities fool you, she also had a wild side. Even as a grandmother, Nanny would roller skate, ride roller coasters, and roll the dice in a competitive board game with her grandchildren. She had an infectious laugh and a warm hug. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. We are extremely proud of her legacy.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph R. and Shirley Knipp Nelson of Tipton and a daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth Ann "Becky" and Lewis Wagner of Kansas City; one brother, Kenneth W Crismon of Eldon, Missouri and one sister Lena JoAnne Lynch of Stockton, CA; 13 grandchildren Joseph G. Nelson, Wichita Falls, Texas; Patrick A. and Dana Nelson, Midland, Texas; Maria A. and Chris Gould, Keller, Texas; Christian and Kim Knipp, Wichita, Kansas; Sarah and Justin Schlotzhauer, Tipton; Jared and Stephanie Knipp, Olathe, Kansas

Wagner, Columbia; James Nelson and Devin Muller, Columbia; Caleb G. and Allison Muller, Chicago, Illinois and Sarah Virginia Muller, Chicago, Illinois; and 23 great grandchildren with another on the way in December.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Irene Crismon; by her husband, James Nelson; by a daughter, Judith Lee Wagner; a sister Barbara Irene Schwebel, and a brother Otis Lou Crismon.
