Virginia Mae Guenther

April 1, 1927 — February 17, 2016

Virginia M. Guenther, age 88, of Versailles, passed away late Wednesday night, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
Virginia Mae Guenther was born April 1, 1927, in Versailles, Missouri the eldest child of Dora Irene (Weaver) Archer and Elmer Eugene Archer. She graduated from Versailles High School where she was Literary Editor of the 1945 school yearbook and active in the Pep Club, Home Economics Club and senior play.
Virginia married Carl A. Guenther (of Versailles, Missouri) on April 14, 1946, in New Mexico while Carl was serving in the Navy during World War II. After marrying Carl, she worked for Hatler Motor Company in Versailles as office manager and secretary, and then from 1949 - 1950 for the Missouri Extension Service in Columbia, Missouri as a stenographer.
In 1952, Virginia and Carl returned to the Guenther family farm near Versailles to make their home. Virginia helped organize the first Junior Sorosis chapter in Versailles and served as its first president from 1953 - 1954. She was a life-long member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving in many capacities during her lifetime. She was especially proud of her involvement in planning and designing the church manse, completed in 1980.
For nearly 27 years, Virginia operated the Guenther Insurance Agency as an independent insurance agent. She was also an active member of the American Business Women's Association. She was a constant supporter of the Morgan County Museum.
Some of Virginia's favorite activities were square dancing, canoeing, camping, traveling, sewing, gardening, and cooking. She was also an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast.
Virginia is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, five children, David Niebergall and wife Susie of Malibu, California; Cathy Wittrock and husband Roger of Eureka, Missouri; William Guenther and wife Dee of St. Peters, Missouri; Patricia Wittrock and husband Jim of Henley, Missouri and Reed Guenther and wife Berenice of Lee's Summit, Missouri, eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Munro and husband Phil, Cristen Wittrock, Ben Guenther and wife Fayeza, Lindsay, Shannon, and Kelly Teeple, Rachael Guenther, Jaden and Caleb Guenther, and Brooke and J.J. Niebergall, two great grandsons, Euan and Tate Munro, one brother, David Archer and wife Ruth of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, JoAnne Foster of Kansas City, Missouri; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Bob Archer.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 22, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles. Interment will be in the Versailles Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church of Monday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
