Vinsel D. Scrivner, age 99, of Russellville, died Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Moniteau Care Center in California.
He was born June 21, 1912, in Russellville, a son of Alva and Louise Schneider Scrivner. On November 25, 1939, at the home of Rev. N.E. Williams, Vinsel was united in marriage to Gladys S. Althoff, who preceded him in death June 23, 2001.
He was an Army veteran, serving his country in World War II as a truck driver in the Medical Corps.
Vinsel worked for the Cole County Highway Department, retiring in 1978 after 39 years of employment.
He was a longtime, faithful member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church near Russellville.
He enjoyed working on his farm, which he did until his health began to fail within the past year. Vinsel had an amazing memory and was often called upon by family and friends for information.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, James C. and Shirley Scrivner of Russellville; Dr. David L. and Dr. Joyce Scrivner of University City and Donald D. and Debbie Scrivner of Jefferson City; five grandchildren, Tony, Ryan, Benjamin, Katie and Mitchell, four great grandchildren, Chad, Danielle, Mickayla and Mackenzie, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Delphine Campbell.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Bro. Alan Earls officiating. Interment, with military funeral honors, will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
