Vernon Roe Wessel, age 67, of Stover, died Saturday, June 23, 2012, in Versailles.
He was born October 22, 1944, in Stover, a son of Herman and Mabel Metscher Wessel.
Vernon was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stover, where he was baptized November 12, 1944, and confirmed May 28, 1958 by Pastor Vernon Rodie.
He was a graduate of Stover High School and served his country as a member of the Missouri Army National Guard.
He worked for many years at the Fajen-Blair Gunstock Factory in Stover. He was also a lifelong farmer.
Vernon was an excellent carpenter, making many pieces of furniture, cedar chests and jewelry boxes for family and friends. One of his special woodworking accomplishments was a large wooden model of Christ Lutheran Church.
Vernon most enjoyed traveling from business to business and friend's homes in the Stover and Versailles area each day, visiting with his family and friends. No matter where anyone saw Vernon, he always loved to stop and visit.
Vernon is survived by his first cousins, Rodney (Barbara) Metscher of Cole Camp, Ron (Ariella) Munsterman, Sr., of Stover and Wyoming, Lucille (Francis) Ahlers of Warrensburg, Juanita (Charles) Salmons of Sedalia and Marcia (Smokey) Brackett of Ozawki, Kansas; along with other relatives and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the Christ Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor James Gerdeen and Pastor George Winston officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Kipp Addition of the Stover Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
