Troy Nichols, age 54, of Versailles passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the University Hospital in Columbia following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Marshall, Missouri on January 24, 1962, the only son of Robert W. and Delores Cotton Nichols. On April 28, 1984 in California, Missouri he was united in marriage to Belinda Comstock, who survives at their home.
He was a 1980 graduate of Versailles High School and attended State Fair Community College in Sedalia.
For several years Troy worked as an EMT for the Mid-Mo Ambulance District. At the time of his death, he was employed with Crown Power and Equipment in Eldon.
Troy was a volunteer fireman with the Versailles Rural Fire Protection for more than 16 years, serving as Chief since January of this year. He was also the logistics coordinator for the Versailles Olde Tyme Apple Festival, along with volunteering countless hours to other events in the Versailles community.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Troy's greatest passions in life were his grandkids and the time he could spend with his fellow firefighters protecting and serving his community.
In addition to his wife of 32 years, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Cody "Newt" and Michelle Nichols of Wheatland; one daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Richard Rush of Indianapolis, Indiana; his parents, Bob and Delores Nichols of Fortuna; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Kim and Til McGinnis of Versailles, Karen and David Rhoades of Beaman, Jan and John Klein of Versailles, and Leslie Nichols of Plano, Texas; six grandchildren, Adyson Nichols, Wyatt Rush, Kennedie Rush, Madalyn Nichols, Benton Rush, and Jaxon Rush, with his seventh grandchild due in February, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A celebration of Troy's life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Versailles High School Football Field. (In the event of inclement weather, all activities will be held in the high school gymnasium.)
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the VHS football field.
