Theodore Bentz, age 98, of Stover, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover, where he loved the nursing home and staff and considered them his extended family. He was born December 2, 1916, in Hope, Kansas, a son of Herman and Marie Mueller Bentz. On November 16, 1947, Ted married Rose Marie Ringery who preceded him in death. On December 10, 1983, Ted married Virginia M. Brown Brandt, who preceded him in death October 15, 2011.
Ted was an Army infantryman, serving his country in World War II in the European theater, where he was awarded five battle stars. He lived in Kansas for many years, before moving to Stover in 1953. Where he was a lifelong farmer and worked for the Fajen Lumber Company. He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover.
Ted loved to travel; he loved to talk about his WWII Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in May of 2010. In his life, Ted traveled to 49 states. He could remember each and every road and the date he traveled each road. He could cross the country on a loaf of bread and package of bologna. His joy was the adventure of seeing the country.
Survivors include three children, Esther Shultz and husband Jim of Springfield; Alice Catalano of Lee's Summit and Rick Brandt of St. Louis; one sister, Ellen Alvarez of Abilene, Kansas; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ted was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Herbert and Clinton Bentz and two sisters, Edna Domke and Virla Bentz.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 2, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Gerald Kurka officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery in Stover. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church on Monday. Memorial contributions are suggested to St Paul's Lutheran Church or Golden Age Living Center.
