Teresa Ann Decker Gilpin

May 16, 1961 — May 29, 2019

Teresa Ann Decker Gilpin, age 58, of Russellville, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the University Hospital in Columbia following a sudden illness.

She was born May 16, 1961, in Versailles, the only daughter of Rex and Frances Jones Decker.

On November 26, 2001, she was united in marriage to Stephen C. Gilpin in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Steve survives at their home.

Teresa was a member of the 1979 graduating class at Morgan County R-II High School in Versailles.

Teresa lived in the Kansas City area for several years, taking college courses while working at various businesses, namely Union Station and in the Human Resources department at Wal-Mart.  She returned to central Missouri where she worked for Bill Washburn Law offices in Eldon.  At the time of her death she was a 20 year employee with the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Being the only girl with four brothers, Teresa couldn’t help being a tom-boy.  She loved being outdoors and looked forward to days spent traveling the countryside in her Jeep.  She had a soft spot for all animals and her home was a haven for almost any creature that she found.      When she wasn’t outdoors, she enjoyed quiet moments at home working on sewing projects.  However, she especially cherished spending time with her grandkids, especially her granddaughter.

Her appreciation for life led her to make the decision to be an organ donor and her family, who was her greatest treasure, honored her wishes.

In addition to her husband Steve, she is survived by her parents, Rex and Fran Decker of Versailles; three daughters, Piper Casteel of St. Louis; Connie Schmidt and husband Aaron of Wardsville and Sheila Reinsch and husband Travis of Jefferson City; four brothers, Rodney Decker of Bowie, Texas; Roger Decker of Versailles; Frank Decker and wife Julie of Mt. Vernon and Lance Decker and wife Tereasa of Versailles; six grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Teresa was preceded in death by one son, Ian Patrick Markley.

In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated.

A Celebration of Teresa’s life is planned for Saturday, June 8, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles with the family receiving friends from 10:00 a.m – 12:00 noon.  Inurnment will immediately follow in the Ritchie Cemetery south of Versailles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Migraine Research Foundation.
