Stephen Scott Coffelt, age 53, of Russellville, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at his home.
He was born December 13, 1962, in Sedalia, the youngest son of Theodore L. and Helen Vers Coffelt, who survive in Houstonia.
On August 11, 1990, Steve was united in marriage to Janice Kautsch at the St. John’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown. Janice survives at their home.
He was a 1981 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia. Steve received his Bachelor’s degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg and his Master’s degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia.
He was employed with the State Office of Administration-Division of Accounting in Jefferson City until deciding to work on the family farm, raising cattle and crops. Steve also served as secretary for the German Mutual Insurance Company for several years.
He was an avid sports fan. Steve played soccer and coached some youth soccer teams in Jefferson City. He enjoyed watching the Mizzou Tigers, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved spending time at the Coffelt lake house; participating in water sports. Steve began collecting crystal animal figurines when he married and added regularly to his collection. Most recently he stayed busy cooking for family and friends.
He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown, where he sang in the choir, was a youth leader, held numerous offices and served on a number of committees.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Theodore L. Coffelt, Jr., of Houstonia and Terry and Patti Coffelt of Columbia, a niece and nephew, Allison and Scott Coffelt of Columbia; his mother-in-law, Ruby Kautsch of Russellville; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Cindy Kautsch of Russellville; Dewaine Kautsch of Jefferson City and Martin and Stacie Kautsch of Russellville; four nephews and a niece, Adam Kautsch and wife Jenna and their daughter Kambrie of Fulton, Andrew Kautsch, Abby Kautsch, Adler Kautsch, and Grayson Kautsch all of Russellville; along with other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Adam Kautsch.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown with Pastor Jacob Mueller officiating. Interment will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery-Stringtown.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 2, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery-Stringtown or Calvary Lutheran High School.
