SFC (Ret) John F. "Frank" Poling, age 79, of Stover, died early Friday morning, January 18, 2013, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia.
He was born December 31, 1933, in Pittsburg, Iowa, a son of Will and Mayme Cook Poling. On October 26, 1954, in Keosauqua, Iowa, "Frank" was united in marriage to Virginia White, who survives at their home.
He started his career in the US Army with the 11th Airborne at Ft. Campbell, KY and ended with the 1st Division at Ft Riley, KS more than 20years later all during the Vietnam War era.
Following his retirement, "Frank" and Virginia moved to the central Missouri area where he was able to hunt and fish. He was a devoted husband, dad and grandpa, who's greatest enjoyment came from being with his family.
In addition to his wife of 58 years he is survived by three children, Bill Poling and wife Yen of St. Roberts; Vickie Simmons of Rich Hill and Kathy Poling of Rich Hill; six grandchildren, Jeremiah, Trustin, Robbie, Meggan, Angie and Molly, twelve great grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother William "Bud" Poling and one sister Louise Poling.
In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated. A private family service will be held.
