Ruth Ann Hillers, 83, of Stover, MO, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
Ruth was born September 14th, 1939, in Humboldt, Nebraska, the daughter of Art and Fern (Boop) Fidermutz. She attended Rosedale Rural School until the fifth grade, at which time she attended school in Humboldt, Nebraska and graduated with the class of 1957. Following high school, she went to National Business Institute in Omaha, Nebraska. She married Calvin H. Hillers on September 15,1957. They later divorced in 2005. To this union three sons were born, Dennis Lynn, James Arthur and Matthew David.
She worked for O.A. Cooper Company while Calvin was in Korea in the Air Force. After his return, she worked in Lincoln, Nebraska for Woodmen Accident and Life Insurance Company for ten years. In 1970, she moved to Lawrence Kansas and worked at the University of Kansas for thirty years, during most of that time, she served as Director of the Graduate Division of the College. She retired from KU in 1999, then spent five years working as a graphic artist for The Leader-Statesman in Versailles, Missouri. While working, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kansas.
Ruth loved music all of her life, singing with the Lincoln and Omaha Symphony choirs, as well as singing in many church choirs and performing solo work for over twenty years. She was an accomplished stained glass artisan, working at her craft for over forty years. In 2004 she became a partner in Light and Grace Stained Glass with Diane Cutler in Stover, Missouri, which she continued until her death. Her other main loves were her children, grandchildren, and her graduate students. She was an active member of United Methodist Church of Stover, and also served as secretary for ten years, Ruth was co-director of the Stover Ministerial Alliance. Her life was also enriched by the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team and the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team.
Survivors include Diane Cutler, her companion and best friend, three sons and their wives, Dennis Lynn (Jennifer Dean) Hillers of Warren, MI, James Arthur (Cheryl) Hillers of Hiram, Ohio, and Matthew David (Kate) Hillers of Eugene, Oregon; two grandsons, J.D. Hillers of Lawrence, Kansas, and Joey Hillers of Hiram, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death a granddaughter Kimberly Ann Hillers, brother James D. Fidermutz, and her childhood best friend, Charlene Marfice.
Visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Stover United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Stover United Methodist Church or the Stover Food Bank.
