Russell Arthur Meacham, Sr.

June 13, 1917 — October 10, 2010

Russell A. Meacham, Sr., age 93, of Versailles, died Sunday, October 10, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
He was born June 13, 1917, in Cherokee, Iowa, a son of William Jennings Bryan and Ethel Ware Meacham. In 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Louise Anthony, who preceded him in death November 19, 2009.
He served his country in the United States Army.
Mr. Meacham was a brakeman and conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad in the Omaha/Council Bluffs, Iowa area for many years. He also served as a Union Griever for the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainman.
In 1976, Mr. and Mrs. Meacham moved to the Versailles area, where he enjoyed being on his farm and tending his milk cows. He also enjoyed spending time on his computer.
He was a minister, establishing the Church of God Sabbath Day on his property south of Versailles.
Survivors include one son, Russell Meacham, Jr. and wife Merry Margaret "Bitsy" of Troutville, Virginia; two daughters, Jean Fairbanks and Sue Asmus and husband Richard, Sr., all of Versailles; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Francis and Robert E. Meacham and two grandsons.
In keeping with his wishes, private services were held October 13, at the Beulah Cemetery in Versailles. Arrangements were under the direction of the Scrivne-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles.
