Roy Leslie Lewis, Jr., age 83, of Stover, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover with his beloved Cookie, adopted daughter Ranee, granddaughter Tiffany and her husband Brandon, and special cousins Sharon Fett and Linda Miller by his side.
He was born April 21, 1936, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado a son of Roy L. Sr., and Irene Thompson Lewis.
Roy was a Navy veteran serving on the USS Saratoga, receiving his honorable discharge in 1959.
He was a self-employed electrician, working in Texas and Colorado for many years. He was employed with BF Goodrich in Texas and Brewer Tire Company in Colorado and also worked as a police officer and EMT; while raising his family as a single parent. After moving to Stover, he worked as a part-time bartender and electrician at Extra Point for Bob Mackie.
He was a member of the Countryside Eagles Club 4286 for 22 years. Roy was of the Lutheran faith.
Roy was an avid fisherman and enjoyed coming to the Lake of the Ozarks and it was during one of these trips he met Janet “Cookie” Carver. Roy and Cookie would share more than 25 years together, enjoying each other’s companionship, and after Cookie retired, traveling until their health began to fail. Roy looked forward to watching his favorite Westerns and most recently, with the encouragement of Ranee, professional wrestling. He was a longtime Denver Bronco’s fan but again, with Ranee’s persistence, learned to love the Kansas City Chiefs.
He was a collector of cardinals and teddy bears and an animal lover, especially his beloved German Shepherds. Roy also looked forward to spending time at the lake on his pontoon with the kids.
In addition to his companion “Cookie”, Roy is survived by three children and their spouses, Allen and Brenda Lewis of Calera, Alabama; Cindy and Jeff Constable of Arvada, Colorado and Sandy and David Horn of Bridgeport, Illinois; step daughter, Pat McMillen of Parachute, Colorado; Cookie’s daughter, who is like his own daughter, Ranee James of Stover; Cookie’s sons and daughters-in-law, Randy Carver of Joplin; Rusty and Linda Carver and Rick and Debbie Carver all of Sedalia; a daughter-in-law, Tina Ives and husband Greg of Cole Camp; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Jolene Lewis of Hayden, Colorado and Bob and Carol Lewis of LaPoint, Utah; four granddaughters, Christy Hartmann and husband Jordan, Angie Hosier and husband Kyle, Kimberly Constable and Bethany Lewis; three step-grandsons: David, Justin and Shane and his wife McKenzie; a step granddaughter, Jen and her husband Craig; three great grandchildren, Mark, Evelyn and Charlie Hosier; six step great granddaughters, Dannielle, Makayla, Elizabeth, Marley, Elena and Faith and a step great grandson Tyler. Roy is also survived by two of Cookie’s granddaughters, who he helped raise, Lexi Munsterman and Tiffany Royer and husband Brandon; along with Cookie’s additional grandchildren, Chris, Jessica and husband Johnathan, Shyla and husband Eric, Tasha and husband Greg, Carrie and husband Michael, Beth and husband Kody, Anita, Dustin and wife Amber, Dylan and wife Quincy, R.J. and companion Jen and Jeremiah and wife Edie and Cookie’s great grandchildren, Evan, Aden, Lanton, Bailey, Samantha, Sutton, Sophie, Preston, Lewis, Olivia, August, Kahlan, Cora, Chaston, Ryan, Alec, Zachary, Donnavan, Ashton, Odin, Cassidy and Micheala, along with his nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In keeping with his wishes, Roy was cremated.
A celebration of his life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the American Legion Hall in Stover. Military Honors will be 2:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church at Pyrmont or Lexi Munsterman College Education Fund.
