Rosena Wilhelmina Caroline Koester, age 91, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Integris Hospital in Norman. She was born in Glensted, Missouri on August 10, 1920, the youngest of eleven children of farm parents Adolph and Augusta Nolte Kroeschen. On August 18, 1940, Rosena was united in marriage to Martin Koester in a double ceremony with another couple at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover, Missouri. Martin and Rosena moved to Independence, Missouri, in 1942, where for many years she helped her husband run their automotive service business. She also served for more than ten years as a volunteer at the Truman Library in Independence. Following Martin's death in 1982, she moved to Norman, Oklahoma, to be near her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Patty Smith of Norman, her son Russell Koester of Atlanta, a brother, Raymond Kroeschen of Stover; two grandchildren Timothy, of Maryland and Brian of Tennessee, and two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Zachary, both of Tennessee. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and nine siblings, August Kroeschen, Otto Kroeschen, Bertha Kroeschen Loomis, Hulda Kroeschen Self, Fred Kroeschen, Viola Kroeschen Richardson, Edwin Kroeschen, Minnie Kroeschen Richardson and Robert Kroeschen. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover, with friends received from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Pastor Cecil Murdock with officiate. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Stover. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, 2448 E. 81st Street Suite 3000, Tulsa, OK 74137-4250.
