Rodney Russell Sweeney, 80, from Pilot Grove, MO, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO with his family by his side.
Born on December 1, 1943, in Tacoma, WA, Rodney was the son of Russell and Lilian (Swanson) Sweeney. He married Patricia Ann Alexander on June 22, 1968, in Fayette, MO.
Rodney served his country with honor in the United States Navy from 1962-1966. While in the Navy he received many accolades for his hard work ethic.
Rodney attended trade school and became a certified John Deer Mechanic. Over the next 50+ years he owned his own shop and worked at various farm implement dealers in central Missouri. He mentored many young mechanics who became lifelong friends. Throughout the years he became known for his knowledge and skills on repairing farm equipment. He was a true expert of the John Deere Tractor. He was never too busy to answer a question on how to fix something or help someone out. He didn't rely much on modern technology, he could troubleshoot the issues just by listening to the tractor and its symptoms.
Survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Patricia, he leaves behind two daughters, Stacy Beaman (Kevin) of Pilot Grove, and Stephanie Sweeney of Sedalia; one brother Charlie Sweeney, of Larimore ND; one sister Jane Carlson (Ron) of Larimore, ND; two grandchildren Cheri Garrigus (Jeff), Stella Oetting; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Lillian Sweeney, and one brother Denis Sweeney,
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Rodney's life will be held at a later date.
