Robert Gene Buckler, age 79 of Florence, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014, at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born September 27, 1934, in Platte County, Missouri a son of Ira and Lily Hamm Buckler. Following the death of his mother, Robert was raised by his aunt, Edna Buckler Wilson in Syracuse.
On April 29, 1961, at St. John United Church of Christ in Florence, Robert was united in marriage to Margaret Houchen, who survives at their home.
He served his country in the United States Army.
Robert was employed for many years with Howard Construction in Sedalia, where he was the paving crew foreman.
He enjoyed being outside, working on numerous projects at his home. He also enjoyed quiet evenings where he could work on crossword puzzles and spend time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Teena and Steve Ekstam of Tipton; Robert and Brenda Buckler and Michael and Jennifer Buckler all of Stover; ten grandchildren, Blake, Chase and Katelyn Ekstam, Brandon, Heath, his wife Anna, and Malorie Buckler, and Zach, Sam, Jacob and Nate Buckler, four step grandchildren, Jessica, Christine and Billy Benson and Darrick Dierks, four step great grandchildren, Allison, Jesse, Kaden and Peter, along with four cousins, other relatives and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his Aunt Edna Wilson, one son, Ronald Buckler, four brothers, Cecil, Albert, Spencer and Willard and three sisters, Birdie, Ethel and Wray.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, at St. John UCC Cemetery in Florence with Chaplain Jeremy Caudel officiating.
