Robert K. Alpers, age 84, lifelong resident of Stover, passed away, Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
He was born July 1, 1928, in Stover, a son of Walter and Hulda R. Fajen Alpers. Robert was baptized July 8, 1928 and confirmed April 18, 1943, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stover, the confirmation verse chosen was I Corinthians 6:20, "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." On June 18, 1955, at the LaMonte United Methodist Church, Robert was united in marriage to Evelyn Williams, who survives at their home.
He was a 1947 graduate of Stover High School and served his country in the United States Navy for four years.
He was a carpenter, working at Whiteman Air Force Base, retiring in 1989, after 23 years of employment.
He was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stover, serving as an usher.
Robert and Evelyn were known for their tractor collection, most notably their Massey-Harris "Pony" tractors, which they enjoyed restoring and showing throughout Missouri. He was also the family "fix-it-guy" patiently working on various projects so they could be used again.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by two daughters, Sue Witte and husband Larry of Stover and Joyce Hicock and husband Bill of Jefferson City; a sister, LeAnne Dale of Stover; three grandchildren, Josh Witte and wife Jackie, Lauren Miltenberg and husband Matt, and Bill Hicock, three great grandchildren, Zane Witte and Liam and Avery Miltenberg, a brother-in-law, Ira Williams, Jr., a sister-in-law, Betty Fry, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Donice Oehrke.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 29, at Christ Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Tom Tuura officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Stover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover, with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Christ Lutheran Church.
