Richard Mortenson

Richard Harold Mortenson 79, of Tipton, Missouri passed away in his home surrounded by his loving wife & family Wednesday, February 7, 2018. Richard was born March 15, 1938, in Clay County, Iowa to Harold & Eleanor Mortenson.

Richard and Marjorie Ann (Newkirk) graduated from high school in May and were married on August 1, 1956 in Tipton, MO. He worked at grocery stores in Eldon, and Tipton as a meat cutter, as well as helped Marjorie's Dad build a few houses on the side. Later they bought a farm southeast of Tipton, raising their 3 sons Richard Allan, Michael Wayne & Mark Randal. In the early seventies Marjorie and Richard opened Mortenson's True Value Hardware Store in Tipton where they worked side by side for over 30 years. Taking his knowledge from working with Marjorie's Dad and years in the Hardware business, he formed Mortenson's Construction Company, where his son Mike, youngest son Randy, nephew Brian Stahl and other family members worked with him.

Richard was a devoted Christian, and member of the Jamestown Assembly of God Church in Jamestown, MO where he has served as Deacon and Board Member of the Church.

Richard was preceeded in death by both parents and one precious Great Grandchild Emma Lianne Mortenson.

Surviving are: his wife Marjorie Mortenson of the home; brothers Larry & Darlene Mortenson of Lone Jack, MO., Dennis & Karen Mortenson of Pleasanton, CA., Jerry & Kay Mortenson of Tipton, MO., and sister Sharon & Dale Todd of Sedalia, MO.; sons Allan & Ronda Mortenson of California, MO., Mike & Lisa Mortenson of Columbia, MO., Randy Mortenson of Tipton, MO.; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, February 12, 2018 at Community Baptist Church in Tipton with Rev. Larry Usher officiating. Interment will be at the Moreau Cemetery, Tipton, MO.

Memorials are suggested to St. Judes Childrens Hospital or the Jamestown Assembly of God Church.
