Richard "Dick" Lewis Mollett, age 79, of Versailles, died Friday morning, March 9, 2012, at the Laurie Care Center.
He was born April 30, 1932, in Kansas City, Kansas a son of David Sr., and Mary Mollett. On May 16, 1983, in Kansas City, Missouri, Dick was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Longstreet, who survives at their home.
Dick spent most of his life in the Kansas City area. He was a caddy at the Milburn Golf and Country Club in Kansas City, Kansas, retiring as Head Caddy after 30 years of employment. Dick was not a person to sit still, so following his retirement he worked as a custodian at the Tune Shop in Prairie Village, Kansas and the YMCA in Kansas City, Kansas.
On April 20, 2002, Dick and Betty moved from Overland Park to Versailles to be near family. In 2003, he went to work at Quality Industries in Versailles, providing custodial services until his health began to fail and he retired in 2009.
He often attended Sunday morning Mass with his wife at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles. Dick greatest enjoyment in life came from spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids.
In addition to his wife of almost 29 years, he is survived by three children, Becky O'Rourke; Shelly Koppi and companion Mark and Scott Longstreet and fiancee Cassaundra all of Versailles; three brothers, John Mollett and companion Sally and Karl Mollett and wife Connie all of Kansas City, Kansas and Henry Mollett and wife Sandy of Council Bluffs, Iowa; five grandchildren, Kayla Greathouse and companion Bon, Kevin Greathouse and companion Megan, Kristin Moore and companion Chris, Jordan Longstreet and Patrick Koppi, two great grandchildren, Isabella and Jeremy Greathouse, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, David Mollett, Jr., and one grandson, Eric Walsh.
In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles with Father C.D. Ryan officiating. Inurnment will be in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Quality Industries or Hospice Compassus.
