Richard Claude Hedges, age 78 of Stover, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at SSM Health-St. Marys in Jefferson City.
He was born March 19, 1937, in Tulsa, Oklahoma a son of the late Joseph and Claudia Rutherford Hedges. On December 7, 1995, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas Richard was united in marriage to Evelyn Kerksiek who survives at their home.
Richard was a graduate of Will Rogers High School in Tulsa. He also served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
He worked in the financial industry, retiring from Citizens Bank in Sand Springs, Oklahoma as Vice President.
As a young man Richard attended one of the first Elvis' Presley concerts, as a "guest" of Elvis. Actually, he had tried to sneak in to the concert and was in the process of being escorted out of the venue when Elvis' limousine pulled up and the "King" himself told the Security Officers to let him stay.
Richard was an avid baseball fan, who loved playing ball in later years in competed in the senior games which earned him a trip to the senior Olympics in Louisiana. Along with watching his beloved New York Yankees, he's also enjoyed watching the Oklahoma Sooners Football team.
He was an accomplished craftsman who, along with his wife Evelyn, took on a second career with their business Claude's Country Threads. They sold handcrafted birdhouses and later clothing at numerous craft shows throughout the United States. Even with his declining health, he continued to accompany his wife to every show so he could visit with their many friends they had made along their way.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Richard Dean Hedges of Owasso, Oklahoma; Stanley Hedges of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Stuart Sherrell of Phoenix, Arizona; Kenny Sherrell and wife Tammi of Franklin, Tennessee and Sarah Roy and husband Raymond of Ava; one brother, Joe Hedges of Orange County, California and one sister, Shirley Holland of College Station Texas. 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 4:00 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Pyrmont, with family receiving friends from 3:00 PM until service time. Military honors will be rendered immediately following the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church at Pyrmont.
