Renata Pauline Ehlers, age 94, of Stover, passed away Sunday evening, July 6, 2014, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover. She was born June 6, 1920, in Stover, a daughter of Theodor and Pauline Nolting Fischer. Renata was baptized June 13, 1920, at Old St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Fred Wittrock, Lisetta Koester, C. Wyssman and Rosina Fajen as her sponsors. She was confirmed March 25, 1934, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover. The confirmation verse chosen was Psalms 145: 18-19, "The Lord is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth. He fulfils the desire of all who fear him, he also hears their cry, and saves them." On December 29, 1940, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Renata was united in marriage to Walter Ehlers, who survives at their home. For a brief time during World War II, Renata was employed at Tweedies Factory in Versailles. For most of her life, she was a farm wife, working side by side with her husband on their family farm south of Stover. She was a faithful member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Versailles. For ten years she was the sewing leader for the High Prairie 4-H club. Renata was an accomplished seamstress and liked working in her garden and cooking. However, her greatest enjoyment came from being with her family. In addition to her husband of 73 years, she is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Norbert Schuermann of Troy; Joyce and Donnie Marriott and Rita and Steve Barron all of Versailles; one sister, Lorena Koester of Sedalia; nine grandchildren, Ellen Schuermann-Lang and husband Donald, David Schuermann and wife Christy, Don Marriott and wife Kaslyn, Ron Marriott, Tim Marriott and wife Heather, Alicia Marriott, Kevin Barron, Eric Barron and wife Brie and Jennifer Avey and husband Tim, eleven great grandchildren, Anna and Addie Lang, Kathryn and Sarah Schuermann, Kade, Kresten and Kehlin Marriott, Khale Marriott, Dakota and Dustyn Barron and June Avey, two step-great grandchildren, Nicholas and Brianna Avey, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Leo, Walter, Arthur, Henry and Paul Fischer, two sisters, Irene Uftring and Paula Fischer and one granddaughter, Melissa Schuermann. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Versailles with Pastor Erik Rottmann officiating. The congregation will sing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," "How Great Thou Art" and "The Strife is Over, the Battle's Won." Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Stover with David Schuermann, Don Marriott, Ron Marriott, Tim Marriott, Kevin Barron and Eric Barron serving as casket bearers and Ellen Schuermann-Lang, Alicia Marriott and Jennifer Avey serving as honorary bearers. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
