Raymond Lloyd Biggs, age 92, of Stover, passed away Friday, September 16, 2011, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City.
He was born November 18, 1918, in Clear Lake, South Dakota to Royce and Grace N. Biggs.
He was raised and educated in Marne, Iowa, Cass County. Raymond entered the Naval Service, US Coast Guard, October 19, 1940. He served aboard the USS Saranac and USS Owasco, PC105. He served in the North Atlantic Submarine Patrol Escort Service, as well as the South Pacific. Raymond was discharged June 16, 1946, at the Brooklyn Naval Yard Separation Center.
He was a self-employed trucker for five years.
He married Hazel Vanetta (Smith) Fajen on December 20, 1951. They operated the Minnow Hatchery in Stover until April of 2001, when he retired.
Raymond was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover, since 1955. He was a member of Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343, Stover, serving as an active member of the Honor Guard Burial Detail. He was a life member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Morgan County Post 5178, and also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 17, Jefferson City.
Raymond loved to hunt and fish.
Surviving are his stepdaughter Marilyn and her husband Robert Stafford of Nixa; his stepson, Douglas Fajen of Ozark;
his companion and dear friend, Irene Merriott of Stover; sisters-in-law, Earylne Biggs of North Platte, Neb, and Elaine Biggs of Huntsville, Ala.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, granddaughter, Kamela Rae Stafford, parents Royce and Grace Biggs, brothers, Royce, Jr., Robert, Richard, Oliver (Bill) and Don Biggs and sister, Beulah Miller.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 20, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Cecil Murdock officiating. Interment, with military funeral honors, will be in the Stover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Monday, September 19, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church or School.
