Ralph "Bud" Vogt, age 89, of Versailles, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
He was born January 28, 1927, near the Pyrmont community north of Stover, a son of Orsino John and Mary Pauline Brown Vogt. On December 22, 1944, in Versailles, Bud was united in marriage with Ina Lucille Sumner, who survives at their home.
He was an Army veteran, serving his country in World War II, achieving the rank of Corporal.
Bud was a gifted carpenter, working throughout Morgan County, building homes and businesses in the area until a stroke on December 1, 1984, changed his life forever.
Bud was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish and to hunt turkey, squirrel, deer and raccoons. Few things pleased him more than finding a good mushroom patch. Following his stroke, with Lucille by his side, he continued to fish and hunt turkey and deer. He also accompanied Lucille on the quest for the mushrooms he so enjoyed eating.
Even though his stroke slowed him down a little, Bud and Lucille were often seen traveling the countryside and enjoying their time together.
In addition to his wife of almost 72 years, he is survived by two children, Steven Vogt and wife Laura of Gravois Mills and Jo Ann Vogt of Bloomington, Indiana; one granddaughter, Melissa Vogt of Columbia; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, Melford Vogt, Marvin Vogt, Orsino "Junior" Vogt, Clarence Vogt, Elsie Brotherton, Golden Eggers, Loyce Quon, and Mary Ann Vogt.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles, with Bro. Roy Bennett officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Versailles Cemetery.
