Rachel Naomi Wood, age 81, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Versailles, passed away, Thursday, February 25, 2016, at her daughter's home in Pleasant Hill.
She was born March 15, 1934, in Barnett, a daughter of James Wesley and Molly Hayes Sidebottom.
Rachel married Paul Edward Hicks, and to this union five children were born.
She worked at the Tipton Pants Factory and retired from the Vintage Shop in Versailles.
Rachel was an accomplished seamstress and was gifted at embroidery work. She was a talented musician, who enjoyed singing and playing her guitar. She was known as the "garage sale queen" and even as her health began to fail her, she was always ready to go scout out a good sale. Rachel's favorite flowers were violets and lilies, her favorite color was pink, and her book of choice was "Girl of the Limberlost" by Gene Stratton. Her home was full of the bounty from her garden that she would can and give to her family and friends. She made a blackberry dumpling that made your mouth water and her pie baking skills were put to use at a restaurant in Barnett for many years. However, her greatest enjoyment came from being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Her spiritual strength came from reading the Bible and Mark 12:31, "Love your neighbor as yourself" was her favorite verse.
