Phil D. Turpin

Phil D. Turpin, age 70, of High Point, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at his home.
He was born December 13, 1942, in Versailles, a son of Roy and Odessa Pryor Turpin, who preceded him in death.
On September 16, 1961, Phil was united in marriage to Phyllis Spratt and to this union four children were born. Phyllis preceded him in death March 13, 1984. Phil married Brenda Crowley on January 19, 1993 and she preceded him in death October 7, 2008.
Phil was a machine mechanic, working at the KC Bifocal Plant and at Gates Corporation, both in Versailles, Stride-Rite in Tipton and retiring from NuWay in Jefferson City.
He was a gifted mechanic who liked tinkering with small engines and stayed busy with small engine repair. He enjoyed being on his hobby farm, raising cows and chickens. However, his greatest enjoyment came from being with his children and his grandchildren.
Survivors include four children, Mitch Turpin of Versailles; Paula Turpin-Woodward and husband William of Princeton; Patrick Turpin and wife Jessica of High Point and Payton Turpin and wife Jennifer of California; two sisters, Frieda Riggin of Kansas City and Fay Downey of Hallsville; sixteen grandchildren, Rhea, Randa, Kyler, Kenzi, Morgan and husband Darin, Michael, McKenna, Jace, Tucker, Jacinda and husband Jeff, Dereck and wife Amber, Whitney, Gentry, Logan, Aleena and Chelsey, four great grandchildren, Naveya, Jolena, Trey and D.C., along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Phil was also preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil, Jack, Carl and Paul Howard and two sisters, Thelma Lorene Elder and Ethel Branstetter.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, at the High Point Baptist Church with Bro. Glen Golden officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery near Versailles.
In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated.
