Opal Marie Mahnken, age 87, of Florence, died Monday, September 6, 2010, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
She was born September 18, 1922, in Florence, a daughter of William H. and Laura M. Schroder Mahnken.
At one time Opal worked for Beggs Grocery, the Stover Hatchery and Golden Age Living Center. For many years she assisted many families in the Florence area with housekeeping duties.
She was a lifelong, faithful member of the Florence United Methodist Church, serving as church custodian and as the UMW secretary for many years.
Opal loved tending her garden and raising her chickens.
Survivors include six nephews and two nieces, Martin Mahnken, Larry Mahnken, Billy Mahnken, Michael Mahnken, Leo Mahnken, Delores Nolting, Eugene Mahnken and Linda Griffing, also several great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Otto W. Mahnken and Olin E. Mahnken and a brother and sister who died in infancy.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 9, at the Florence United Methodist Church with Rev. Sherri Purdom officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 8, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.
