Okal G. Embry, 92, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. He was one of five children born to Lacy and Ethel Embry on a farm near Tipton, Missouri.
Okal and Mildred Hoffsetter were married July 3, 1940 in Tipton and made their life together working and raising their family before Mildred passed away April 10, 2000 after almost 60 years of marriage.
In 1944 Okal was inducted into the US Army serving as an infantryman and rifleman in the European theater during WW II. He was severely wounded in December 1944 and received several ribbons, a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his service.
After the war Okal and Mildred lived in Kansas City for a time and in 1967 Okal and his brother purchased the Chevrolet dealership in Tipton. In 1969 his son Dwight joined him in the dealership which they maintained until 1998. Okal and Mildred were members of the First Baptist Church of Tipton for many years.
Okal was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mildred; brother Richard Embry; sisters Hazel Rice and Irene Newkirk.
He is survived by son Dwight Embry and his wife Diana of Tipton; daughter Donna Gardner of Peculiar, Missouri; sister Tillie Holmberg and her husband Ed of Tipton; granddaughters Heather and Jill Embry, Lisa Jordan and her husband Craig, Traci Thomson and her husband David; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Okal G. Embry will be 10:30 AM Saturday August1, 2015 at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton with a visitation from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will immediately follow at the Moreau Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Tipton or the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.
