Norma Jean Steenbergen, age 81, of Russellville, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City.
She was born February 21, 1934, in Russellville, a daughter of Edmund and Leona Freshley Heinrich. Norma Jean married William "Bill" Miles on May 24, 1951, and to this union three children were born, Harold, Sheryl, and Marshall. On August 24, 1984, she married Kenneth Steenbergen, who preceded her in death October 6, 2001.
Norma Jean attended Russellville High School. She worked for the State for 17 years. She retired from the Cole County Collector's Office after 29 years of employment.
Norma Jean was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Stringtown.
She enjoyed embroidering quilt blocks and making quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also crocheted afghans, giving one to each grandchild and great grandchild. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Harold and Judy Miles of Lebanon; Sheryl and Donn Schmoeger of Russellville and Marshall Miles of Russellville; one sister, Lois Belshe of Henley; six stepchildren and their spouses, Roger Steenbergen of Jefferson City; Revae and Larry Volkart of Russellville; Janice and Ivor Steenburgen of Henley; Robyn Huddleston of Jefferson City; Karen and Nick Payne of Russellville, and Malinda and Dave Overhoff of Roach; eight grandchildren, Gwen, Kara, Clayton, Lindsey, Tyler, Shawn, Derick, and Shelby, eleven great grandchildren, Gabe, Isabelle, Layla, Asher, Owen, Brennen, Haylee, Angela, Taylor, Brock, and Ericka, one great-great granddaughter, ten step grandchildren and many step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Kenneth, Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Leona Heinrich, her former husband, Bill Milles, a daughter-in-law, Patty Miles, a step daughter-in-law, Pam Steenbergen, and a brother-in-law, Jim Belshe.
Services will be 10;30 a.m. Monday, December 28, at St. John's Lutheran Church-Stringtown and Pastor Jacob Mueller officiating. Interment will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 27, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery-Stringtown or the charity of the donor's choice.
