Modesta Marie Simon

Modesta Marie Simon, age 89, of Stover, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
She was born April 25, 1922, in Morgan County, a daughter of Frank and Alvena Schmidt Weller. On April 26, 1941, at St. Johns Catholic Church in Bahner, Modesta was united in marriage to Leonard L. Simon. He preceded her in death February 23, 1988.
Modesta was a homemaker, busy raising her two daughters. For more than 18 years, she was a cook for the Morgan County R-I school district in Stover.
She was a faithful member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles, where she was active in the Altar Guild.
Modesta enjoyed quilting, crocheting and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. However, her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Natalie (Donald) Shackelford of Stover and Connie (Dave Howell) Ruckman of Rockaway Beach; two grandchildren, Ethan Shackelford and Melissa (Jason) Boothe; two great grandsons, Jaxon and Merick Boothe, along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Edward Weller and two sisters, Agnes Ihm and Alma Edwards.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 18, at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles with Father Patrick Dolan officiating. Interment will be in St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in Bahner.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover, with the praying of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Johns Catholic Cemetery or St. Philip Benizi Altar Guild.
