Milton Leroy Schroder

Milton L. Schroder age 77, of Stover, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at his home. He was born March 11, 1937, in Florence, a son of Clarence L. and Anna Wiecken Schroder. On March 5, 1960, at the Stover United Methodist Church, Milton was united in marriage to Myrna Geary, who survives at their home. He was a 1955 graduate of Stover High School. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri, receiving his Masters in Education in 1968. Milton served his country in the US Army, achieving the rank of Captain in the Army Reserves. For 23 years, Milton taught vocational agriculture, retiring from the Savannah R-3 high school in Savannah. He also worked for more than 15 years at Gardner-Denver in Sedalia. He was a member of the Savannah United Methodist Church, but actively attended both the Florence and Stover United Methodist Churches. Milton was an avid cattle farmer and outdoors man, who enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, fishing and working in the garden. He took great pride in teaching many Young Farmers in northwest Missouri. In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by two children and their spouses, Mark and Mandy Schroder of Greenville, South Carolina and Mona and Rex Purvis of Boonville; two sisters, Dorean Case of Stover and Waneta Dudley of Overland Park, Kansas; a brother-in-law, Donald Zimmerschied of Mora; three grandchildren, Shaun and Halie Schroder and Alexander Purvis; three nephews, Joe, Vic and Brian, five nieces, Doris, Karen, Ann, Julia and Donna, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Laverna Zimmerschied, two brothers-in-law, Harold Case and James Dudley and one niece, Jill. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 25, at the Florence United Methodist Church with Pastors Jorge Arvelo and Diane Cutler officiating. Interment will be in the Florence UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Florence UMC Cemetery or a local FFA Chapter.
