Mildred Pauline Heimsoth

December 12, 1935 — November 16, 2024

Stover

The world lost one of its most hard working and generous beams of light on November 16th, 2024, with the death of Mildred “Micky” Heimsoth, 88, of Stover. She blessed the world for the first time on December 12, 1935 and grew up in the most humble of ways; attending one-room schoolhouses south of Stover while her and her sisters wore dresses made from used feed sacks.

She went on to graduate from Stover High School in 1953 and marry her high school sweetheart, Oliver Heimsoth, a year later. While the couple lived in Kansas City for a number of years, they ultimately decided that they wanted to raise their family in a small town so moved back and bought their farm near where she grew up on Big Buffalo Road. There they raised their family, Kathryn and Stephen Heimsoth. When Stephen was taken by cancer in his youth, Mildred and her family leaned even harder into their faith in God to help get through that and many other difficult times.

In 1972, Mildred began what would become a long history of service to the Morgan County community by working at the Stover Post Office. Little did she know at that time that 15 years later, she’d become the County’s first female Postmaster, a position that she held until she retired in 1996. That accomplishment led to her being considered a role model by many young women in and beyond the community.

She always contributed her success to keeping very high standards while pursuing excellence and remaining humble in the eyes of God and humanity. A difficult balance but one she was able to make look easy. Beyond work, she applied those principles to her long time involvement with Christ Lutheran Church and especially its choir, member and president on the Morgan County Health Board, as an election official, volunteering at the Morgan County Museum, and working tirelessly on the family farm with Oliver. Another quality that made Mildred so special was her willingness to share in her success while helping the community. Many people, organizations, and groups were blessed by her generosity.

In her spare time, Mildred enjoyed traveling the country, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Tuesday morning breakfast with “the girls” was one of her favorites, giving her a chance to catch up and socialize with friends.

Mildred left a proud and loving family to carry on her hard work; her Daughter Kathryn Wahlers of Stover, Grandson Kris Wahlers and his wife Beth of Parker Colorado, Amy Starkey and her husband Terry of Stover, Great-Grandchildren Dylan & Logan Wahlers and Cheyanne & Chad Starkey and many cherished nieces & nephews. She’s now joined her parents Paul & Bessie Wilson, husband Oliver Heimsoth, son Stephen Heimsoth, sisters Frances Brown and Grace Summers, and son-in-law Gary Wahlers in Heaven. She’ll forever be missed by many great friends who consider her down to earth and classy at the same time and a country girl at heart.
