Michael G. Profitt

March 18, 1956 — October 19, 2023

Tipton

Michael Gary Profitt, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, at the age of 67, experienced one final change of address as he entered into his heavenly home on Thursday, October 19, 2023.  He passed away at home after a recent cancer diagnosis.

He was born March 18, 1956 in Versailles, Missouri, son of Emogene (Fiecken) Williams.  Mike was a 1974 graduate of Green Ridge High School.  He was a member of the Tipton First Christian Church where he served as deacon.  On September 4, 1976, in Tipton he was united in marriage to Gloria Sue Bookout.  Together they shared 47 years and were blessed with one daughter, Kayla.

Mike worked as a farmhand until employed at Veuleman’s Elevator from 1978-1988 with his expertise being in the running of the spray truck during planting season.  From 1988 until his retirement in 2019, he worked for the City of Tipton.  For 29 years he served as Tipton’s Wastewater Plant Operator/Superintendent where he was recognized for numerous awards and accomplishments, including Outstanding Missouri Wastewater Operator of the Year in 1997 & 2014.  Mike’s most prestigious award was the 2018 Warren Kramer Award from Missouri Water & Wastewater Conference.

For 27 years, Mike served as a volunteer for the City of Tipton Fire Department until his retirement in July 2009.  The last 14 years of service, he dedicated his time as Fire Chief of the all-volunteer squad.  He took great pride in the fire department and considered his fellow volunteer firefighters a part of his family.

Mike loved his family dearly.  Through the years, he enjoyed fishing, camping, raising and showing Charolais cattle with his daughter.  His pride and interest grew with his two granddaughters’ love of horses and sports.

Surviving is his wife, Gloria, of the home; his daughter, Kayla O’Neal and her husband, Kris, of Auxvasse; two granddaughters, Kierstyn and Kourtney; a sister, Debbie Williams and a brother, Chris Williams, of Green Ridge; mother-in-law, Merrilyn Bookout, of Tipton; and sister-in-law, Kay Bookout, of Lee’s Summit.

He was preceded in death by his mother; step-father, Don Williams; a brother, Brian Williams; and father-in-law, Don Bookout.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the Page-Dady Funeral Home in Tipton, where the family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m.

Burial will be in the Tipton Cemetery after the service.  A dinner for family and friends will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Tipton after the burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to benefit the Tipton City Fire Department with checks made to the “Mike Profitt Memorial” which will be directed by the family for a project to honor Mike.
