Michael D. King

August 30, 1957 — December 31, 2011

Michael Dean King, age 54, of Russellville, passed away Saturday morning, December 31, 2011, at his home.
He was born August 30, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri a son of Dean E. and Norma Jean Deffenbaugh King. On October 22, 2005, Mike was united in marriage to Vicky Hanus Rankin, who survives at their home.
He was a 1975 graduate of Raytown High School. In 2002, Mike received his B.S. in Education from Lincoln University in Jefferson City.
For almost ten years he was employed with the Cole County R-V school district in Eugene, teaching high school history classes. Mike truly loved teaching and his favorite award was when he was selected by several students as a "Person who made a difference in their lives."
He was a member of the Russellville United Methodist Church.
Mike was an accomplished vocalist, singing in the church choir and with various groups over the years. He was an avid golfer, a volunteer on several country cemetery restoration projects and enjoyed working alongside his dad in his yard or his workshop. He also enjoyed being outdoors where he could go hiking with his wife or take nature photographs.
In addition to his wife, Vicky, he is survived by his parents, Dean and Norma King of Russellville; his son, Jacob and wife Autumn of Hannibal; his daughter, Rachel of Jefferson City; his stepsons, Michael of St. James and Chris of Springfield; his sister, Pam Green and husband Rich of California; two step grandsons, Christopher and Brendon; a niece, Becci Sue Kroeger of Russellville; along with other relatives and many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, January 4, at the Cole Co. R-V High School Gym in Eugene with Rev. Jim Ireland officiating.
