Michael A. Fields, age 70, of Stover, Missouri, died Friday, November 13, 2009, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri.
He was born July 22, 1939, in Galesburg, Illinois, a son of George Mayo and Edna Mae Johnson Fields, both deceased. On September 4, 1960, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Mike was united in marriage to Karen Benson and she survives at their home.
He was a graduate of Galesburg High School in Galesburg, Illinois and a US Marine Corps veteran.
Mike was a manager/supervisor for Caterpillar in Mossville, Illinois, retiring after 28 ½ years of employment.
He was a life member of VFW Post 5178 in Gravois Mills and a member of Zack Wheat Post 624 in Laurie/Sunrise Beach.
Mike and Karen began making weekend trips to Stover back in the 1980's. In 1996, they made Stover their permanent home.
He was an avid horseman, who enjoyed horseback riding and collecting model horses of all shapes and sizes. He also was a talented watercolorist and charcoal artist/painter.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George Fields and Pamela Aubuchon-Fields of Blue Hill, Maine; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Margaret Fields of Woodhull, Illinois; Ronald and Maureen Fields of Great Mills, Maryland; Darrell and Sharon Fields of Henderson, Illinois and Fred and Linda Fields of Andover, Illinois; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and William Green of Moline, Illinois and Candace and Loren Swihart of Lynn Center, Illinois, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In keeping with his wishes, Mike was cremated. A Time of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, November 20, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home on Friday.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or a local Cardiac Care Unit.
