Melvin "Sonny" Wray Marriott

Melvin (Sonny) Wray Marriott, age 89, of Stover, Missouri passed away peacefully Wednesday morning February 23, 2022 at his farm, fourteen years to the day that he lost his wife (the love of his life), surrounded by his daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and sister-in-law.

He was born on November 27, 1932 at home in Stover, the son of the late Raymond and Cloie Kreglinger Marriott.

On June 24, 1955 in Greenville, South Carolina, Melvin was united in marriage to Joyce Ozella Speed, who preceded him in death, February 23, 2008.

To the union of Melvin and Joyce, two children were born, a son, Randall "Ranny" Marriott, who preceded them in death July 11, 1986, and a daughter, Rhonda Coslet and husband Michael of Lee's Summit, Missouri; also three granddaughters, Mica Coslet, who preceded them in death February 12, 1981, Danielle Jackson and husband John of Harrisonville, Missouri and Brittney Marriott of Sedalia; step grandson Jason Elwood of Sedalia; great grandchildren, Brax Marriott Jackson, Sonni Lou Jackson, and Asia Rose Marriott; wife Darlene Patterson of Stover. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Melvin was a 1951 graduate of Morgan County R-1 Stover High School. In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1956.

In 1966 Melvin and Joyce purchased his childhood dream "the farm". Melvin and his brother Mancil along with their wives had Marriott Brothers Dairy from 1966 until 1976. In 1977, Melvin and Joyce began Marriott Custom Cutting from 1977 to 2002. After harvest he continued raising cattle from 2002 until 2020.

Melvin was ordained as a deacon in January 1965 at Rehms Park Baptist Church in Banner Springs, Kansas.

He currently was a member and deacon at 1st Baptist Church of Stover. He also attended 1st Baptist Church of Versailles.

Melvin was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother, Shirley Wilson, Leland Taylor, Lois Bush, and Mancil Marriott and his father and mother-in-law, Major and Christine Speed.

Funeral services for Melvin will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at "the farm" 23598 Little Buffalo Rd Stover, MO 65078. Burial will be in the Stover Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon Tuesday until the time of the service at "the farm"

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief.
