Melva Dean Lawson Cobb, age 98, of Tipton, passed away Sunday, at the Villa Marie Nursing Home in Jefferson City.  She was born December 15, 1924 on the farm south of Tipton, Missouri, the daughter of Charles T. and Gladys Irene Newkirk Lawson.

Melva Dean attended the Hickory Grove Elementary School near Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School in 1943.

She worked for the Gerbes Store in their business office, the Post Office and the Tipton Bank until she married Clifford Everett Cobb on July 5, 1946.  She and Everett lived on a farm in Cooper County north of Syracuse, Missouri, with their three children, Kenneth, Donald and Beverly.

In the fall of 1960 they built a home in Tipton and moved to town.  They continued to operate the farm together until Everett passed away on March 26, 1973.  Melva Dean continued to manage the farm until a few years ago.

Melva Dean was known for her sugar cookies and loved to share them with family and friends.  She enjoyed vegetable gardening, the beautiful roses and flowers in her yard, and her African Violets.  She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, embroidery work, counted cross stitch, jigsaw puzzles, reading Love Inspired Books, and listening to digital books. Most of all, she loved her family, and talked often of them.  She was always happy when her family were together at her home for holiday meals.
