Mary Katheryne Friedley, age 92, of Mora, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Centerpoint Hospital in Independence, Missouri. She was born July 14, 1921, in Denton Texas, to R.A. and Ora B. Miller Carroll. In 1958, in Miami, Oklahoma, she married William Friedley, who preceded her in death on October 29, 1994.
Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved life. She touched everyone's hearts with kindness and her cheery attitude. She loved living on her farm and was known for her peacocks. However, what she truly enjoyed was being with people. Whether her own family or someone she just met, her door was always open. For many years, as a volunteer, Mary made hundreds of small quilts for the Salvation Army's children shelter in Kansas City. She bought the fabrics and stitched her special love into each quilt in an effort to provide something positive to the lives of the unfortunate children housed there. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends whose lives will not be the same without her. But, everyone who knew her, knows she will be watching over them throughout the years ahead. She is survived by one son, Steven Friedley of Sedalia; three daughter, Peggi Jones and Kaye Miller and husband Bob all of Raytown and Leslie Brown of Smithton; a special friend, Betty Sharon; along with four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two grandchildren. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover, with the family receiving friends from 12:00 noon until service time. Interment will be in the Stover Cemetery.
