Mary Douglas, age 84, of Stover passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
It was on the 5th day of October in 1938 that William and Lulu Montgomery welcomed their daughter, Mary Ellen, into their home in Plattsburg.
She was united in marriage to Chester Douglas in Plattsburg, who preceded her in death on March 17, 1982.
Mary was a farmer's wife for most of her life. She also worked as a waitress and as a housekeeper for a nursing home until she decided to retire.
Never one to sit still, Mary was always very active. She loved being outdoors. She was very proud of her flower and vegetable gardens. She was also proud of her yard and always insisted on taking care of it herself. Time spent with her brother Smith fishing were some of her best memories. When she was inside, she liked to bake pies, bread, cookies, and anything else requested for all her family and friends. Even when she was sitting still, she was still working her mind by crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and turning jigsaw puzzles she had made into beautiful pictures. She cared for all animals, but her greatest enjoyment in life came from spending time with her family.
Left to carry on Mary's legacy is her daughter, Phyllis Dowdy and husband Bill of Stover; her son, Jerry Douglas and wife Anissa of Smithton; six grandchildren, William, Sean, Ashley, Aaron, Chase, and Jayden; two sisters, Linda and Dorothy; along with other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings, Bill, Tom, John, Wendell, Tedd, Smith, and Judy.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Wisener officiating. Burial will be in the Stover Cemetery.
A visitation for Mary will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Stover Animal Rescue.
