Mary Ellen Craig, age 89, of Stover passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, at her home with her family.
It was on the 9th day of October in 1934, that Daniel and Addie (Hopkins) Brown welcomed their only child, Mary Ellen, into their home in Deerfield, Missouri.
On June 1, 1952, she was united in marriage to WW2 and Korean War Veteran, Bill Craig. Bill preceded her in death on January 17, 2018.
Mary had a respectable work ethic. She worked as a cook for the Morgan Co R-1 Stover school district for many years and worked and retired from Dixon-Ticonderoga.
Mary was a member of the Stover United Methodist Church.
Mary and Bill enjoyed riding motorcycles with their friends from Nevada, Missouri. They also liked to spend time camping around the lake in Warsaw. Later on, they enjoyed bringing the grandkids on the camping adventures in the “camper”. Mary found joy in gardening.
Left to carry on her legacy are her three children, Cassia Linda Craig of Springfield; Bruce Wayne Craig of Stover and Wesley Brook Craig of Tipton; five grandchildren, Sacha Simpson Schafersman and husband Mike, Ian Simpson and wife Ashley, Justin Brewer, Jessica Brewer, and Brandi Craig Goldsmith and husband Matt; ten great grandchildren, Megan, Hunter, Holland, Izaiah, Sophia, Erik, Victor, Halibel, Azrael, and Adeline; along with other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by a daughter and a son-in-law, Deborah Ellen and John Brewer; and her parents.
In keeping with her wishes she was cremated.
A memorial visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2024 at the Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Stover. A private inurnment will be held in Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas at a later date.
