Mary Laura Boeschen

June 4, 1929 — February 22, 2025

Mary “Memow” Laura Boeschen, of Stover, MO, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Golden Age Living Center surrounded by her family.

She was born on June 4, 1929, near Stover, MO, to Alexander and Gordia (Cable) Spencer, who preceded her in death. In 1947, shortly after graduating from high school, she was united in marriage to LeeRoy Boeschen at the Christ Lutheran Parsonage in Stover upon his return from World War II. LeeRoy preceded her in death after 59 years of marriage on July 14, 2006.

Mary spent much of her life working with textiles at Smithson’s Quilting Factory and later in the fabric department at Walmart. An excellent seamstress, she sewed countless articles of clothing, curtains, and bedspreads for her daughter and granddaughters. Anything they dreamed up, she could make. An active and faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church, Mary was instrumental in starting the Christ Lutheran Church Choir, where she sang for decades. A bit of a trailblazer, she was the first woman to serve on the church council. She also enjoyed playing pitch, gardening, and feeding anyone who walked in her door. Mary was famous for her apple pies, dill pickles, and plum jelly. Each granddaughter always had their favorite homemade cake on their birthday. A woman of gentle strength and unwavering positivity—no matter the situation or how she felt, her answer was always, “I’m fine.”

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Witte (Darrell); three granddaughters, Chandra Keuhn (David), Andrea Kincaid (Seth), and Gwenda Bassett (Damon); two great-grandsons, Ethan Keuhn and Auden Bassett; and seven great-granddaughters, Lydia Kincaid, Isabella Kincaid, Adalena Kincaid, Emma Bassett, Hartley Bassett, Olive Bassett, and Ivy Bassett.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her four brothers and four sisters and one granddaughter, Amber Witte.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Christ Lutheran Church in Stover, MO, with Scott Bauer officiating. Visitation will be held at the church before the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Stover Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Darrell Witte, Gerald Schlomer, David Keuhn, Seth Kincaid, Damon Bassett, and Ethan Keuhn.

Honorary Pallbearers are Chandra Keuhn, Andrea Kincaid, and Gwenda Bassett.
