Marvin C. Eckhoff, age 88, of Stover, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the Harry S Truman Memorial VA Hospital in Columbia.
He was born March 7, 1927, in Cole Camp, the oldest of twelve children born to Lawrence D. and Elda L. Brandt Eckhoff. He was baptized March 27, 1927, and confirmed June 8, 1941, at Brauersville Immanuel Lutheran Church near Cole Camp. The confirmation verse chosen was Psalm 37:4, "Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."
On September 21, 1957, at the Christ Lutheran Church in Stover, Marvin was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Brauer, who survives at their home.
Marvin was an Army veteran, serving his country in the Korean War, achieving the rank of Sergeant 1st class.
He was employed with the local MFA as a truck driver and later drove for Otten Trucking and HEET Gas Company for a number of years. He was an independent driver for the United States Postal Service until his retirement. Marvin also farmed; raising beef cattle for most of his working career.
He was a faithful member of the Christ Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343, both in Stover.
Marvin enjoyed visiting with anyone he met, fishing, Cardinals baseball, trains, squirrel hunting with his boys, and Mary's cooking. For several years he and Mary made yearly trips to Arizona and he also looked forward to his annual Army reunions. However, his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Steven and Debbie Eckhoff; Paul and Debbie Eckhoff, Tom and Debra Eckhoff all of Stover and Marilyn and Jeffrey Maynard of Jacksonville, Florida; seven siblings, Nelson Eckhoff of Sedalia; Kenneth Eckhoff and wife Linda and Rodger Eckhoff and wife Debbie all of Cole Camp; Rosaline Scott of Windsor; Ella Knierim of Stover; Elda Bryson and Alma Dey and husband Bill all of Sedalia; eleven grandchildren, Jamie Simon and husband Mitchell, Kyle Eckhoff and fiancée Raven Woods, Miranda Bolinger and husband Wes, Erin Eckhoff, Victoria, Katie Beth, and Karsten Eckhoff, and Donovan, Dasan, Ashur, and Kaleb Maynard, four great grandchildren, Kiley, Jaxon and Logan Simon, and Aviana Maynard, sisters-in-law, Armilda Eckhoff of Cole Camp; Geraldine Eckhoff of Barnett and Mary's brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Glenda Brauer of Edwards, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
