Martin L. "Marty" Bunch, age 84, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City.
He was born, September 20, 1928, in Jefferson City, a son of John H. and Mattie Ann Spurgeon Bunch. On May 27, 1950, in Jefferson City, Marty was united in marriage to Helen M. Holmes, who preceded him in death April 23, 1977.
He was a 1946 graduate of Jefferson City. Marty was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
He was employed with Missouri Power and Light, retiring from Ameren Missouri as the meter shop supervisor.
Marty was a sportsman. As a young man he played for the town baseball team at the Missouri State Penitentiary and later in life took up playing golf. He was an avid race fan. Racing modified cars and later assisting the drivers at Capital Speedway. His latest venture was go-cart racing with his son and grandson.
Survivors include one son and two daughters-in-law, Gary and Audrey Bunch of Lohman and Mary Bunch of Scotia, New York; three grandchildren, Jessica L. Stoermer and husband Shawn; Jamie A. Bunch and wife Amanda and Matthew Bunch; five great grandchildren, Gage Bunch, Cami Ferry, Drew Ferry, Mattson Stoermer and Aaryn Bunch and his sixth grandchild who is due in May, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Michael Bunch, two brothers, John and Donald Bunch, a sister, Carolyn Danklef and a brother-in-law, John "Jack" Danklef.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Kitchen Fund.
